The success of a muskie stocking program has only added to this lake's reputation. Lake Vermilion in Minnesota is ranked as one of the state's premier fisheries with the focus on walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, perch and bluegill.

Northern pike are far in numbers, and look for 5-7 inch bluegills and 6-12 inch crappie. Best known for a good bass population, there are plenty of 3+ pound fish to be caught in North Long Lake.

It is also famous for its fall sturgeon action. Holcombe Flowage is one of Wisconsin's best lakes for walleye, muskie and crappie.

Weed growth is not a problem at this time and the majority of the action is shallow. Early May and June are best for all species on this 2,409 acre lake. In summer, gamefish and panfish can be lured from the weed pockets and weed edges.

A 52 pound class release is recognized as the state's second largest recorded. Minnesota's Leech Lake boasts world class muskie. Many believe there is a world record in these waters.
