49. Cattle News: Letter: Killing bison wrong answer to brucellosis
If ranchers don't want brucellosis, they can vaccinate their cattle and quit whining that if they can't raise cattle, they'll have to subdivide your land. Sunday, June 3, 2007 I am disgusted with the continued dishonest campaign that uses bison as a scapegoat for the livestock industry. Repeated articles have blamed elk for the infection, yet once again bison are the target of the killing fields. That is just another red herring to detract from the real problem of irresponsible cattle ranching.

50. Cattle News: DJ CME Livestock Review:Cattle Complex Dives; Most Hogs Float Up
It also became apparent that cattle buyers and sellers in the Plains would not reach a deal on unsold cattle before futures closed which generated floor uncertainty. People on the cash side who looked to live cattle futures for guidance after the board rallied on Thursday were probably disappointed when contracts fell Friday, a trader said. Feeder cattle posted a sharply lower settlement on bearish live cattle futures, profit taking by longs, CBOT feedgrain's brief surge and fund selling....

51. Cattle News: Bison buffer idea doesn't gain traction
Schweitzer proposes that any outbreaks of the disease on ranches in an area that extends about 50 miles from the park would not count against the state's brucellosis-free status. Bison carry the disease, as do some other wild animals, and ranchers want to make sure they don't transfer a second case of brucellosis to a domestic cattle herd. The latest round of brucellosis test results, on blood samples drawn from cattle near the original infected herd in Bridger, came back negative...

Ethanol production pollutes in unexpected ways, and experts say it's hard to know what the industry's full environmental impact will be. The net environmental benefit of biofuels is a matter of constant debate, in part because scientists and government leaders continue to discover new ways to maximize the industrys benefits while avoiding damage to the environment. As the debate rages, here is a look at what other researchers and experts say can be done to improve biofuels environmental...

53. Cattle News: Carl's sues Jack over Angus
Features: Blog . Contribute . Favorites . Forum Advertisement Advertisement About LAist LAist is a website about Los Angeles. In truth Angus is a breed of cattle, not a part of the animal. The gist was that Angus sounded like something gross, and it came from the very back of the cow. In a lawsuit filed in federal court yesterday, CKE alleges that San Diego-based Jack in the Box is attempting to confuse consumers into thinking that its Angus burgers come from the rear-end and/or anus of...

54. Cattle News: Herbivores. Carnivores. Locavores?
But even in a 100-mile radius of Hutchinson, there are producers raising and butchering range chickens, sheep, beef and buffalo, and producing fresh eggs, milk, honey, vegetables and fruit. Most people don't give a second thought to where the fresh produce purchased in the grocery store comes from; they just expect it to be firm and ripe, year-round. A group in the San Francisco Bay area created the word in 2005 to describe people who eat only food produced within a 100-mile radius of...
