this is a large snail native to central qld and is classed as one of the best eating snails in the world likened to the burgundy snail of france by the university of new england
Details
these snails 18 to 22g ea. they are a very hardy snail. hardly much slime ulike the helix aspersa[brown gaden snail]. xanthomelon has a white flesh it was a big part of aboriginal diet in this area they survie drough and bushfire. they only come out of a nightime just before dawn they bury under ground to a depth upto 4inches under ground. i have been experimenting with these for about 20 years unlike the university of new england i can succesfully bread them in captivity by free range farming with them living on their natural foods. unfortunately they are seasonal sep. to march then they go into hybernation for the winter months.
