DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Vineyard Operations Preparing Annual Vineyard Plan for all vineyard activities including materials and labour requirements, including schedule Recommend core manpower plan, and implement in conjunction with Chief Operating Officer Manage all part time and seasonal vineyard workers within the latitude of the Vineyard Plan Manage a training plan for vineyard workers, including mandatory third party training (First Aid, Pesticide Applicators Course, etc) Manage the execution of the Vineyard Plan, including ordering all materials, scheduling work activities (both field labour and machine operations) and irrigation Manage an effective Preventive Maintenance program for all vineyard vehicles and equipment, including irrigation systems. Arrange for repairs as needed Identify when changes to the Vineyard Plan are necessary, and recommend appropriate solutions Recommend areas of improvement for crop quality, reduction in costs, etc. Maintain proper records of all vineyard operations activities Work with Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker in Crop Load Management Work with Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker in Harvest coordination and execution
2. Viticulture Monitoring and Management Manage effective monitoring of vineyard regarding nutrient status; grape diseases; insect, fungus and weed pests Maintain proper records of all viticulture monitoring activities Keep abreast of emerging trends in viticulture and recommend improvements to be adopted Recommend and Plan any large scale changes in vineyard plantings, specifically regarding the clonal and rootstock selection for the given vineyard site Act as liaison to outside organizations such as BC Wine Grape Council, BC Grape Growers Association, Summerland Research Centre
3. Vineyard Budget Preparation and Management Based on the Annual Vineyard Plan, prepare the vineyard portion of the annual budget prepared by the Chief Financial Officer. Monitor actual costs against the budget, and identify major variances Identify, justify, and recommend Capital projects for the vineyards Execute those Approved Capital projects as directed by management
