Summary: Summer equestrian camp programs for beginner and advanced riders. 6 (6-week) seesions of lessons per year for a total of 60 riders per session. Weekend trailrides for 100-200 people over 2-3 days. Must be knowledgable in both western and english styles. Equestrian director is also responsible for herd health of 16-24 horses.

KNOW HOW
The Equestrian Program Director must have experience in a field related to horsemanship and the care of livestock. This position is also responsible for supervising a farrier for horseshoeing and general foot care and maintenance of the horse herd. The equestrian Program Director will be skilled in a wide variety of horse and barn management skills. Necessary skills will include the ability to work with different types of people, certify riding instructors (Western and English), horse training, selection and management. He/she must possess maturity, good judgment and organization skills, good public relations and follow-up.
1. At least 25 years of age 2. A bachelor degree in equestrian science, recreation, education, or a related field, and/or at least two years experience as part of camp administration with experience related to equestrian programs 3. JOB SEGMENTS
Program Development 1. DEVELOP, PLAN, SUPERVISE, and EVALUATE new and innovative equestrian programs to meet the needs of the City of Akron and surrounding communities 2. DEVELOP and MAINTAIN programs geared to populations with special needs based on NARHA standards 3. COORDINATE and SUPERVISE all Firestone Equestrian programming, activities, facilities, arrangements and procedures. 4. COORDINATE and SUPERVISE the summer Ranch Camp program with the Resident Summer Camp Director and Associate Executive Director 5. PROVIDE programs to the general public - these may include lessons and public trail riding. However, these programs may not conflict with program participants that are in residence 6. OPERATE and PARTICIPATE as 1 portion of the over-all resident and day programs - this may include participating in campfires, staff meetings, and training 7. COORDINATE and SUPERVISE appropriate equestrian activities to participants from other camp programs including, but not limited to, Parent/Child, Outdoor Education, and group rentals 6. INSURE safety in all programs. 7. INSURE continuing high standards in all summer programs by MAINTAINING accreditation standards set by ACA and CHA.
Financial Management 1. RESPONSIBLE for PREPARING the annual programmatic income and expense budgets for the Firestone Equestrian Center and its programs, and ADMINISTER the approved budget, exercising necessary CONTROLS to assure compliance with the accepted plan of operation. 2. FOLLOW established guidelines for all purchases, using the P.O. system. 3. ENSURE proper billing information is given to the accounting department for payment of usage when appropriate - otherwise COMPLETE billing and evaluations for all programs 4. CONTRIBUTE to the Camp Y-Noah cost containment by properly allocating supplies, and constantly looking for ways to save money on supplies, personnel, and daily energy costs. Human Resource Development 1. GUIDE, COORDINATE and ASSIST program staff and volunteers on a daily basis. LEAD by example. 2. RECRUIT and SELECT staff with skill levels needed to develop, produce and manage programs and services provided by the Firestone Equestrian Program. 3. TRAIN, SUPERVE and EVALUATE the staff of the Firestone Equestrian Center. 4. ESTABLISH and IMPLEMENT methods of staff motivation. 5. RECRUIT and DEVELOP a volunteer base for the Firestone Equestrian Center and its programs. 6. ASSISTS in TRAINING all staff on risk management utilizing the Akron Area YMCA training program and incorporating zero accident attitude.
Facility Development 1. ASSESS facilities to ENSURE proper maintenance and upkeep of Camp Y-Noah grounds and facilities, making suggestions to the Executive Director and the Property Manager and keeping records of suggestions. Special attention will be given to the Firestone Equestrian Center, Indoor & Outdoor Arenas, pastures, and horse-related shelters. 2. COORDINATE effect methods of litter control around the Firestone Equestrian Center. 3. MAINTAIN accurate and timely records, camp equipment and supplies, and inventories in the Equestrian Center. REPAIR, REPLACE or REPORT equipment that is broken or unusable. 4. MAINTAINS a clean and safe environment for all guests and campers. 5. RESPONSIBLE for safety and professional care of horses, equipment, supplies of Camp Y-Noah and the Firestone Equestrian Center 6. INFORM Associate Executive Director and/or Executive Director on all aspects of Equestrian Center operations
Financial Development 1. SOLICITS donations of horses, equipment and supplies as needed. 2. ASSIST with Partner Campaign, United Way, and Capitol campaigns.
Marketing 1. PROVIDE Associate Executive Director (by extension our Marketing Department) with information for press releases (monthly) and promotion (seasonally). 2. ASSIST with the DEVELOPMENT and IMPLEMENTATION of a comprehensive annual marketing plan and calendar for Camp Y-Noah summer pr
